What is Long Line Rhythm®

In a nutshell Long Line Rhythm® develops the concept of Feel Time Don’t Count Time,” which often is not developed properly because of a few basic misunderstandings. This course will help to clarify the process. Through the use of this book and accompanying videos both a beginning and advanced student will achieve a deeper understanding of its use.

Long Line Rhythm: Improves Your Musicianship

There are countless ways that Long Line Rhythm® can improve your musicianship. In general it is used for these purposes:

• Feeling larger pulses within music that can be as small as a few beats, up to multiple measures or even an entire form of a piece of music.
• By learning to feel larger pulses, an ability to play at extreme speeds can be achieved.
• The concept of feeling larger pulses can also be applied to “Beat Reading,” where you learn to read ahead of the music when sight reading, by training your eye to see larger pulses within the written score.

What are the Core Ingredients of Long Line Rhythm®?

The development of Long Line Rhythm also involves ear training, physical technique on your instrument, and development of basic to advanced rhythm skills. This course will give you guide lines on how to develop Long Line Rhythm® for musicians of any level. I often recommend other publications to use if a student is deficient in some aspect of their musicianship that would impede progress with Long Line Rhythm®.

Technique Considerations with Long Line Rhythm?

Long Line Rhythm® is commonly used in conjunction with either the MetroDrone® or “The Big Metronome®. Both function first as a metronome using large pulses to define a metronomic beat while the “all purpose practice tool” the MetroDrone® also includes a low pitch to create a key center so that ear training skills can be developed along with rhythm and time.

Your physical technique will have a lot to do with your success with Long Line Rhythm®. If you are a guitarist I highly recommend you first work with the “Guitar Technique and Physiology” to assure that you understand proper technique. If you play other instruments, remember that ergonomic movement without stress is crucial, as is proper posture and a relaxed feel when playing.

What About Drummers and Percussionists?

Drummers and percussionists can also use the Long Line Rhythm concept by feeling larger groups of rhythms. All exercises can be easily applied to any rhythmic instrument.
