Classical Ear Training Series
Practice Perfect Applied Classical Ear Training Series concentrates on various classical composer’s music to
teach contextual ear training that is applied directly to real music. Two courses are currently available both
use the Bach’s Chorales. Bach’s Chorales are a particularly good choice to start classical ear training. The
Chorales contain a lot of the harmony that was used in all of Bach’s music and arguably is the bulk of the
harmony used in most music even to this day!

find two courses that we recommend as prerequisite to the Practice Perfect Classical Series. It is important
that you understand Bruce Arnold’s ear training system before working on the Practice Perfect Classical Series.
Overall the Practice Perfect Applied Ear Training Series is a collection of books where you use real music to
work on ear training. Further down this page you can see the various courses that are available in this series.
Individual courses or bundles can be purchased for these courses. Each volume concentrates on a different style
of music but all volumes have you either sing notes or guess notes while real music is played. All of these
exercises assume that you are doing this exercises in relation to a key center.
These courses are not meant for a beginner starting our ear training method. That said, the Practice Perfect Applied
Ear Training Series can be used fairly quickly after a student is getting approximately 50% correct answers on
either of our beginning methods:

As previously mentioned the Bach Chorales are often said to contain most of the harmonic movement that is used in
western music even by today’s standards. Therefore they are a excellent place to start with classical ear
training but also for any musician interested in developing their understanding of music via their ear and not
just through intellectual understanding of the music theory behind each piece. There are two volumes currently

Practice Perfect Applied Ear Training Series Suggested Order of execution can be found below. Each Style
of music present different challenges. Unless you are looking for a particular style it is recommend to
follow the order presented below when working with the Practice Perfect Applied Ear Training Series.

Applied Ear Training Series. We encourage you to listen to the demo tracks for each volume to see where
is the most appropriate place to start.
First in the Practice Perfect Ear Training Series is 10 volumes in various musical styles. Overall these
courses are easier for most students and therefore is a good place to start with applying contextual ear
training to real music. Listen to the examples found on each page to see if they are right for you. You

hear and sing notes in relation to a key center with these common song forms. Each chord progression
covers different aspects of these song forms going from the most scaled down versions to highly

The Applied Jazz Standard Ear Training works with music from the great American song book. These jazz
standards are great because they contain so much of the harmony commonly found in all music. These
courses would be the hardest for students and should be studied last in the Applied Ear Training
