Practice Perfect Applied Ear Training Volume Six

Practice Perfect Applied Ear Training Volume Six

Applied Ear Training Volume Six uses Pop music to teach contextual ear training. Like the Rock version of this series the Pop looks at simple chord progressions that might be a bit tricky in their construction. Musicians tend to think that rock and pop are easy to play which might be partially true but hearing these chords and melodies in one key center can often be challenging. Take a listen to the examples below and see how you do. If there are problems then this is an excellent course to get your ear tuned into the types of melodies and chord progressions used in the Pop idiom.

What is Practice Perfect

The Practice Perfect series of books provides multiple ways for a musician to hone their skills through exercises that teach using real time application within a music environment. That is, these exercises place a musician in a real live music situation simulating the contexts most associated with performance.

Two different types of exercises are included:

  • Real music is played in the background as you are prompted to sing a specific pitch in the key center. You then hear the correct pitch sung by a soprano, alto or tenor voice.
  • You hear a note sung by either a soprano, alto or tenor voice as the real music is played. You are given a few seconds to identify that note, then the correct note is spoken. There are three levels each giving you more notes to guess throughout the track.

Hey Bruce, Thanks for putting out this Pop Music edition of the ear training. I also own the Practice Perfect Applied Volume Three Heavy Metal and finding I do ear training a lot more often now that I can do it with real music. . Y. Newton

I having a lot of trouble with minor keys when I do your Contextual Ear Training exercises. This new Pop Music Volume and the Practice Perfect Applied Volume One has really started to help me. I used your advice and also put on a MetroDrone® as I played each track to reinforce the key center. Thanks again for your quick response and helpful suggestions. H. Allman

Hey Bruce thanks for your suggest to add in some of the real music ear training exercises to my current regimen of Contextual Ear Training® and Ear Training One Note® Complete courses. As you recommended I’ll try to keep a positive attitude when doing these exercises. It’s really easy for me to beat up on myself when I miss a note. I now understand that a positive attitude is a much better approach when trying to memorize the notes within a key center or for that matter anything I want to learn! W. Evans
