Practice Perfect Applied Ear Training Volume Two
Volume Two in this series is really Rock Ear Training. 10 Tracks are included in this series that cover some of the more common types of rock styles. You will find other rock styles such as Heavy Metal, Punk or Pop covered in another volumes. Although many times musicians think that various rock styles are “easy.” Many times hearing these simple chord progressions and tricky melodies can be a challenge for a musician. The tracks chosen for this volume exhibit many of these characteristics so don’t be surprised if you are stubbed sometimes on certain tracks. Over time you will hear them but it might take a minute.
Much of the feedback I get from these Practice Perfect Courses is students tend to listen more because they receive more musical enjoyment from the tracks. While I recommend you start with our more clinical ear training books, Ear Training One Note Complete and Contextual Ear Training. Begin by getting to point with these courses that you are have around 50% correct answers once and awhile and then start into these Practice Perfect Courses. If on the other hand you will work on these Practice Perfect Courses because they are real music and you hardly ever work on the Ear Training One Note Complete and Contextual Ear Training courses then that is better than nothing. Just make sure you understand how your are suppose to hear or sing notes in a key center and not to use the common crutches that so many students fall into.
The Practice Perfect series of books provides multiple ways for a musician to hone their ear training skills through exercises that teach using real time application within a music environment. That is, these exercises place a musician in a real live music situation simulating the contexts most associated with performance.
Two different types of exercises are included:
Volume Two of the Practice Perfect Applied Ear Training is a collection of 10 different audio tracks where you are prompted to sing a specific degree in the key center. There is also 10 tracks where you hear a note and have to guess what that note is as real music is played. The tracks have the following characteristics:
Here are some ways to prepare yourself before beginning the exercises:
Keep in mind that each of the 12 tracks has three different audio files. One MP3s where a soprano voice singing the answer and two others with Alto and Tenor singing the answers. There are various examples of all three of these below:
Keep in mind that each of the 10 tracks has three different audio files. A Long, Medium and Short MP3 are included for each track. The speed at which you hear the notes to guess approximately double in tempo for each level. There are various examples of all three of these below:
These Real Rock Ear Training tracks are awesome! Thanks Bruce I’m glad you brought out the rock side of your musicianship for this course. G. Niemann
Really enjoy working with theses Real Rock Ear Training songs. Applying ear training to real music is not only fun but it goes straight to the heart of my ear training problems. A. Gary
I think this whole series of books is a great idea. The first volume sounds more like movie scores while Volume Two sounds like a rock concert with ear training. H. Ambrosio
I like this Volume Two of this series because it concentrates on the type of music that I play. U. Kent
