Applied Jazz Ear Training V2 works with 12 keys of a Minor Blues chord progression. The complexity of these 12 progressions vary greatly. This prepares a student for the multiple types of 12 bar Minor Blues progressions that are commonly found in the Jazz, Blues and Rock styles to name a few.
Many students have problems hear in a minor key center and these 12 progressions will help to solve that issue. Both singing and listening exercises are included. The examples found below will help you determine if this course is at an appropriate level for your current ability.

If you are new to the Practice Perfect Applied Jazz Ear Training Series of books. We recommend you first work with both the Ear Training One Note Complete and Contextual Ear Training Course. These will help you to hear notes within a key center which is the entire approach to our ear training courses.
The Minor Blues progressions in this course vary from simple to highly complex. The exercises are also geared toward beginning to advanced students. It is best to listen to the examples further down this page to see if this course is appropriate for you current level.

Keep in mind that for each exercise there are either a Soprano, Alto and Tenor voice used sing the answer. There are 180 exercises found in this course. They use 12 re-harmonizations of a Minor Blues Chord Progression. There are various examples of using a Soprano, Alto and Tenor voice as well as listening examples below:

If you understand Mr. Arnold’s concept of hearing notes within a key center then you can jump right into this ear training. I know they don’t recommend it but I get it… Hear all 12 notes in the key center. Simple idea with a huge amount of power. These applied ET courses are killing. I’ve been working on Applied ET V1 for a few weeks and already notice a distinct difference. W. Grant
I’ve been slugging it out with this ear training for two years. Honestly I would have quit about 3 times but I keep in touch with Mr. Arnold and he convinced me that my slow progress was natural given my situation. Anyway I’m up to 70% on Ear Training One Note now and started this new Applied Ear Training courses Bruce recommended I wait a bit on these jazz applied ET and concentrate on the other ten volumes as a prerequisite.
I have no history of playing or listening to jazz though that is my final goal. I really appreciate Bruce’s guidance. He a straight shooter who doesn’t sugar coat the situation and that has helped me gain confidence and an understanding of where I am in my music studies. H. Linderman
