Hearing Bass Lines

Hearing Bass Lines Bundle contains: beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels. if you prefer individual level downloads please see further information below.

Being able to hear bass lines is perhaps one the most important skills you can have as a musician. A bass line tells you a lot about what chord or scale is being used in the moment, plus the rhythmic level and style being used. This course gives you 11,800 four note bass line examples in the form of MP3s in which a key center is played followed by four notes which must be identified. Following this, the answers are given aurally. The 11,800 examples represent all possible combinations of four notes using any of 12 pitches. This course puts you totally in the driver's seat of understanding bass lines, their function, and the different types of bass lines used in just about all music.  It's truly an in-depth course to develop your skills.

Three Levels and a Bundle

The course is divided up into three levels Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced. There is also a recommended bundle available that has all three levels. The bundle is recommended because any serious music student should be able to hear all types of bass lines in a key center. Each level presents approximately 4000 bass lines of increasing difficulty and a three page PDF containing a detailed discussion of different kinds of base lines plus directions for working with the exercises. The difficulty of each exercise usually rises as non-diatonic notes are included, but depending on the student's musical and cultural background the difficulties of these levels could vary widely.

Understanding Bass Lines

There are three major categories of base lines dealt with: harmonic, ostinato, and mixed type. The PDF accompanying this course explains each type and how you can identify and hear each type. This kind of information is invaluable in helping a student to know what kind of bass line they are hearing and what is the appropriate way to interact with it.

Hearing Bass Lines Bundle contains: Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced levels.  The bundle contains all 11,800 MP3 exercises. 11800 MP3s exercises might seem like a lot but it's really only 100 hours of listening. Of Course, you will probably find bass lines that need work, so more hours beyond that basic 100 will need to be applied. Keep in mind if you listen to an example and get it correct you do not need to listen to it again. You will notice when you add the "Hearing Bass Lines Bundle" to the cart you are given special pricing on other products that are related to this course. It is highly recommended that you consider the "Key Retention Builder Course" because key retention is a common problem that many students have when trying to hear harder bass line examples.
