Long Term Plan for Ear Training

Q: Hi Bruce!  I am about to purchase the 5 items I mentioned earlier. I know this is a bit far away, but I wonder about the following for my long-term plan.  I know both the Key Retention Builder Series as well as the Two Note Ear Training are a continuation of the Ear Training One Note Complete.  Why would someone do one over the other?  Is the Two Note Ear Training melodic or harmonic? I have no great vocal aspirations, but I have always wanted to be able to sing decently.  I got into a couple of CDs that taught one to sing 4-part harmony.  It sounds like Lines Volume One: Sight Reading and Sight Singing Exercises would do this, plus I feel it would be a good skill to learn. So is it fair to say Lines Volume One: Sight Reading and Sight Singing Exercises could be part 3 after Contextual Ear Training & Fanatic’s Guide to Ear Training and Sight Singing?  & either Key series or Two Note Ear Training is part 2 to Ear Training One Note Complete? I just wanted to order the things I am basically 100% certain about while the sale is on.  Thank you so much for all of your help & have a great day!

A: We have both two note Melodic Ear Training Series and Two Note Ear Training harmonic.  Melodic is learning how to recognize melodies with the Contextual Ear Training and harmonic is to get you on the road to modulating and hearing whole chords and identifying them. The book Lines Volume One: Sight Reading and Sight Singing Exercises would definitely help you with part sing and would be an excellent choice as long as you are getting at least 80% on the Ear Training One Note Complete training.  You definitely can use it after Contextual Ear Training and Fanatic’s Guide to Ear Training and Sight Singing.

Hope that helps,

Bruce
