Ear Training One Note Extreme Course
Q: Dear Bruce, Yesterday I bought one of your ear training products which was: Ear Training One Note Extreme, Could you help me with some ideas on how to use it? Is it different from the other One Note products? Does it works the same as the other one note ear training products or is it different? I don’t get how to use it.
A: The idea behind the Ear Training One Note Extreme is to make you guess notes very quickly and also to have you work with a minor key center. The speed at which you guess the correct answer is important especially when you apply your aural comprehension skills to real music in real time and Ear Training One Note Extreme Course will really help this. It is also important to have your One Note Recognition skills fast because you will need that speed when you start working on the Two Note Ear Training Course. I would work with the Ear Training One Note Extreme a few times a day as you are also working through the Key Note Recognition levels and applying the ear training to the Direct Application Ear Training Courses. Remember that direct application is extremely important! You learn in one “context” at a time, so you want to apply your aural skills in as many ways as possible. Remember too that using the MetroDrone and/or the Jam Tracks is a good way to test and apply your ear training skills when your are working on other music exercises.
I would also highly recommend you get started with the Scale Analysis course. The overall idea of this course is to teach you how this ear training works when you have a chord progressions. Basically Scale Analysis teaches you how you will hear the scales that go over a chord progression. There are two sides to this course. One is filling in the worksheets and the other is doing the ear training exercises that accompany the course. If you could get started filling in the worksheets now and in 6 months or so start the ear training exercises when you get better at the “one note” ear training that would be the best approach. I’d like you to do one worksheet a week which will take about 20 minutes to fill out. There are 36 worksheet to complete in the course so that will take 36 weeks or 9 months to complete. If you can get to the point that you intellectual understand how this ear training works it will help you see what you are working towards and you will also start processing chord/scale relationships in the right way.
Let me know if you have further questions about the Ear Training One Note Extreme or any other books.
