Choir Ear Training Practice Method
Q: I’d like to know what you recommend I start with on Choir Ear Training Practice Method. I already sing in choir and sight read and play the piano, but need to have an awareness of pitches. I’d like to get to the point where I can improvise and harmonize vocally and on the piano.
A: Nice to hear from you. For a Choir Ear Training Practice Method where you will be sight reading melodies I would recommend 3 products.
Ear Training One Note Complete

I would try starting with the intermediate level and see how you do with that and then get back to me and let me know. If you are OK then we will stick with that if not we will go down to the Beginning level which is included.
Fanatic’s Guide to Sight Reading and Ear Training

You should get started with the “One Note” exercise in this book and get back to me in a week or so and let me know how you are doing.
Contextual Ear Training Voice Edition.
The exercises in Contextual Ear Training Voice Edition are similar to the “One Note” exercise in Fanatic’s Guide to Sight Reading and Ear Training but the difference here is you hear the answer to the exercise so you can work on your sing of notes anywhere. The Fanatic’s Guide to Sight Reading and Ear Training requires you be at an instrument to check if you are correct. Although these books have similar exercises at the beginning Fanatic’s Guide to Sight Reading and Ear Training gets into a lot of sight singing once we get you past the “One note” exercise which is what you ultimately need to sing well in a choir.
I would get the digital downloads of all of these books and get back to me once you get the books and I’ll help you with a practice schedule.
Let me know if you have any questions about the Choir Ear Training Practice Method I recommended.
Best Regards,
Bruce
