Applying 013 Chord Voicings Effectively
Learning to effectively apply chord voicings based on 013 is quite challenging for most students. There are many factors at work that make this difficult:
- Chord Voicings are not tertial structures.
- 013 can represent any chord type, which is an unique characteristic.
- They use tension combinations that are not usual in traditional harmony.
- For guitarists, some voicings require a very large finger spread.
- It can be hard to hear a whole progression where all chords are 013.
Because the application of 013 in jazz, rock and blues is so recent, there also isn’t a lot of music available to help you acclimate to the 013 sound. Consequently many students only dabble with the concept and then move This is unfortunate because the 013 sound isn’t particularly dissonant in many applications, and if voicings are properly placed on the guitar frettboard, many of the larger stretches can be avoided.
All of These Issues Were Taken in Account with the “Applying 013 Chord Voicings” Course
