Right Hand Technique for Guitar Volume One

Right Hand Technique for Guitar Volume One

Does your right hand feel like it's out of control or are you experiencing pain?

Right Hand Technique for Guitar Volume One will give you:

  • Step by step information to get your right hand and arm functioning in a way that will give you effortless technique.
  • Simple yet effective right hand exercises that give you the control you need to play the way you want to.
  • Steps to take if you have developed a repetitive stress injury.
  • A right hand technique that takes the stress off your wrist.
  • Etudes to help you develop rhythm in your forearm muscles.
  • A graduated method for the guitarist with physical injuries caused by playing incorrectly.
  • A method to use your forearm as the main source of movement when you pick or strum the guitar.

Great Technique equals great playing skills?

Tendonitis, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Repetitive Stress Injury are specters haunting the life of every musician; they are career stoppers. It is unfortunate that the teaching of contemporary guitar rarely includes the basics of proper stance, posture or positioning of the arms, wrists and hands, even though this is the most basic foundation of technique!

Most students tend to fixate on the left hand, due to the complex nature of its task, but the right hand has an equally important, if seemingly simple function. Incorrect technique in this area and its painful consequences can be avoided by applying the information found in this book.

The exercises and positions described have been developed by the author in conjunction with physiotherapists and major players in both the classical and jazz world.

This book is invaluable for the beginning student who wishes to get on the right path immediately, the musician who is experiencing fatigue or pain in playing, and the musician who may already have some damage.

The exercises are geared to help the muscles respond smoothly to the demands placed upon them, and develop fast, precise playing. 24 etudes are included with midifiles that can be downloaded from the internet to facilitate correct practice and aid internalization.

Have a repetitive stress injury?

Pills and physical therapy can only go so far. If you don't change the underlying problem you will be plagued with pain and an ongoing problem.

Don't let poor technique hold you back.

Buy this book before you spend years playing with the wrong technique and end up having to start all over. Bypass years of the physical pain that usually accompanies the path to realization that you are playing incorrectly. With a few simple exercises and using your body correctly you can be a world class guitarist with impeccable technique.

Get Right Hand Technique and start get excellent technique and speed without pain!

Ultimate Arpeggio 3 Note Combinations

Ultimate Arpeggio 3 Note Combinations

Ultimate Arpeggio 3 Note Combinations: Pitch Class Set Exercises for Dominant 7th Key Center

"Ultimate Arpeggio 3 Note Combinations" explores the common 3 note arpeggios, i.e. Major, Minor, Diminished and Augmented but more importantly it includes the long overlooked 3 note arpeggios that are not built in 3rds.

There are 12 basic 3 note groupings when boiled down to their basic interval content. This book explores these relationships with a host of exercises that help you develop unique applications of these structures. Études are included that help you hear new melodic and rhythmic ideas for these 3 note combinations. The études can be used to develop your sight reading skills, transcription ability, as well as ear training exercises or just to listen to and take in the unique new sounds.

Ultimate Arpeggio 3 note combinations BUNDLE

This course has many related books and courses that will allow you to expand your ability with these 3 note groupings even further. You can see some of these recommended courses below.

These courses really allow you to see the full potential of the Ultimate Arpeggio Course.

Arpeggios not built in 3rds?

"Ultimate Arpeggio 3 Note Combinations" is meant as a guide to help you explore 3 note combinations both familiar and new. Most students have worked with arpeggios that are built in thirds which are included in this study but you also get many other less discussed 3 note groupings that give very intriguing sounds. Since many of the sounds found in this book will be new to students it is recommended that you divide your time between technical exercises that will develop your physical ability on your instrument and ear training studies to help you get the sounds of these combinations into your memory so that you can express them freely.

What's are these other 3 note arpeggios that aren't built in 3rds?

There are many books that discuss the use of arpeggios in music. Unfortunately most of these only discuss chords that are built in thirds. While chords built in thirds are very common in music there are also other arpeggios that are not built in thirds that are commonly used and they can be a great resource for finding new melodic and chordal ideas to play over various musical situations. You can approach the use of these non-tertial (a chord or melody not built in thirds) combinations in a couple of ways: think of the non-tertial group of notes as a replacement for a tertial (a chord or melody built in thirds) arpeggio. For instance, if you had the notes C, E, G you could replace those with C, D, G in most musical situations. In many cases this will give you a more modern sound while still representing the initial triadic sound of C, E, G. You can also extend this idea when you start composing music in which you are only using these non-triadic combinations. This creates a very intriguing sound both melodically and harmonically. Depending on the three note combination you pick it can result in many different types of sounds from beautiful consonant music to highly dissonant. These non-triadic combinations can be used in any style of music from rock to jazz to classical. They all work well but keep in mind that the combination you pick will radically affect the type of sound you are trying to create. To see some examples of using these non-tertial combinations check out the book “Tools for Modern Improvisation” which will give you scores and MP3s in various musical styles, in which you can hear some music using these different non-triadic combinations.

Here is a list of exactly what is contained in the course:

So this is a far reaching course that gives you information on:

  • All types of 3 note groupings
  • 18 melodic combinations for each 3 note grouping
  • Études in all 12 keys with MP3s and Midifiles so you can hear the sounds of each 3 note combination.
  • How to use these new sounds to replace the arpeggios and chords you currently use.
  • A complete run down of every 3 note grouping and what chords it can be played over.
  • Two Bar Turnarounds examples to use as alternatives for Pitch Class Set Études
  • Recommended chop building exercises for each 3 note combination.
  • An Appendix that shows you the Chord and Scale Relationships to help you understand what notes are available on every 3 note grouping.

Below are some examples from the Ultimate Arpeggio Course.

013 Hexatonic Études: Pitch Class Set Exercises for Dominant 7th Key Center

013 Hexatonic Études: Pitch Class Set Exercises for Dominant 7th Key Center

013 Hexatonic Études: Pitch Class Set Exercises for Dominant 7th Key Center

"013 Hexatonic Études: Pitch Class Set Exercises for Dominant 7th Key Center" contains 336 études exploring 28 hexatonic scales ( 6 note scale) in all keys. Each of these 28 hexatonic scales can be played over a dominant 7th chord. A dominant 7th of course is one of the most commonly used chords in music so if you are looking for new sounds to explore these études are an excellent resource. Each étude is played at three different tempos so it is good for beginning to advanced students. Midi files are also included so you can play these études at any tempo. All études are played over a dominant 7th chord which repeats every measure, so you can hear exactly what each étude will sound like in a real musical situation. It will also improve your key center recognition when it comes to a dominant key center. These études can be used as an ear training exercise as well; you can either transcribe the étude or a more general ( and a lot more fun ) ear training exercise is see how quickly you can identify the 6 notes that are being used in the étude. These études are all written on the 16th note metric level so they are also a great way to develop your ability to sight read 16th notes. Each étude is one page in length so reading one or two études each day is a quick way to improve your sight reading or ear training skills.

What are Hexatonic Études?

The "013 Hexatonic Études" are composed of 2 three note groups of notes that alternate back and forth using two, three or four notes from each group. This pivot back and forth between two different three note groups creates a very modern sound. In these specific études we are pivoting back and forth between 2 three note groups whose internal structure is made up of a half step and a minor third. Using pitch class set theory we would call this grouping an 013 which is just a way of looking at the intervals contained within the three note group. The course will explain this idea of thinking with pitch class sets which is easy but takes a little explanation.

336 Études for Developing New Sounds Over a Dominant 7th Chord.

The following list shows the different études included. These études are played at 3 different tempos so that a beginning to advanced student will find an appropriate level. Please see drop down menu below for a complete list of content:

Since these études are using 28 different hexatonic scales and each scale has 12 different unique études you are getting a good sampling of possible sound of each hexatonic scale. In total this gives you 336 exercises to help you immerse yourself in these new sounds. A good way to work through this course is to first listen to the level 3 études which will be at the fastest tempo. This will help you to decide if you like the sound of the hexatonic scale and want to investigate it further by playing through the études.

You should also be aware that there is a multitude of other courses that are closely related to this course in that they will help you to develop both the technical and aural perception skills needed to master this type of sound.

Below are some examples of the études with MP3s to hear each example. Each étude is has accompanying MP3s that play the example at 3 different tempos. Midifiles are also included so a student can choose any tempo.

The audio files that accompany this course will help you hone your accuracy, but can also be used for ear training and improvisation.

This book gives you diatonic chords for all the modes of major. That includes Major, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian, and Locrian. These chords are played sequentially up and down each mode in all 12 keys. The voicings used are in closed position which make them playable on all chordal instruments along with making them physically easier to master. There are MP3s and midi files that come with this "ChopBuster" course which can be used to check your accuracy, but also to slowly build up your speed.

Below are two examples from the “ChopBusters: Diatonic Chords of Major Modes Pyramid 5."

  • There are 3 MP3s for each étude each gets progressively faster. Since these études make more musical sense when play at a faster tempo the MP3s below start with the fastest MP3 and then get slower. Keep in mind that there are also midifiles for each example so you can play any exercise at any tempo.
  • Level 2 MP3 for example above with 2 measure count-off which also creates the key center.
  • Level 1 for example above with 2 measure count-off which also creates the key center.
  • You can use these exercises for ear training, sight reading, transcription or just to listen to ingrain the sound of a key center created by a modal progression. Remember you can play these examples at any tempo... Super slow or extremely fast with the midifiles that accompany this course.

Many student are weak in their ability to identify key centers when presented with a modal setting.

Pitch Class Set Exercises: Atomic Scales 027:

atomic-scales-027-by-bruce-arnold

Atomic Scales is a fancy name for using three note scales as a vehicle for improvisation and composition. Smaller groups of notes are very useful because they provide more possible applications when applying them to different musical situations. This book applies this idea to both a three note group(s) which I call a trichord(s) and a six note group which I call a hexatonic scale i.e. a six note group of notes. A hexatonic scale can of course be divided up into to groups of three notes (in other words two trichords).
This book concentrates on using a three note scale (pitch class set). The pitch class set used in this book is 027. An example of an 027 would be D, E, A. Another example would be E, F#, C#. This book looks at using both of these 027s. An indepth explanation of 027 is presented along with exercises to apply these groupings to many chord types. A fingering pattern chart is included to help guitarists apply this information to the guitar fretboard along with melodic patterns that any instrumentalist can use to apply 027s to their instrument.
