- Develop a student's ability to play in a duet situation.
How it works.
First thing to realize that this is a fun course. You are actually getting to play music while developing all the skills listed above. The MP3s play the chord progression one chorus then there is only a metronome clicking on 2 and 4 for one chorus. The student improvises or comps the changes during this chorus. The accompanying chords then come in and play the next chorus of changes. By working with these MP3 files you will develop a feel for both a Major and Minor 12 bar blues form.
- For guitarist or pianists it is recommended that you improvise using a simple blues scale while listening to the chords. The next chorus you will only hear a metronome and it is during this time that you should play the chords.
- If you play a non-chordal instrument then you should again improvise with a simple blues scale while listening to the chords and then arpeggiate each chord while thinking what the notes are in the overall key center for each note.

- I'm a singer. Mr. Arnold recommended this course to me because I had problems keeping my place within music especially when I was improvising, I had a hard time hearing more complicated chord progressions in that I would always get lost. I mostly had just listened to simple rock chord progressions so when I heard more complicated chords I completely lost my sense of key. I also had a tendency to speed up and slow down when singing melodies. This PDF of chord progressions and accompanying MP3s really helped me solve all of the previous problems I mentioned. I actually also had a lot of fun doing it. Some of the chord progressions were a little fast for me but in general the tempo at which each chord progression was played was within my ability. Mr. Arnold recommended that I work on one chord progression the week for about 15 minutes. A couple of the chord progressions took me two weeks but in general I was able to complete each chord progression within the recommended time. Mr. Arnold pointed out that although these chord progressions contain a lot of cords that I should work towards trying to hear all the chords in one key center. Can't say I mastered that but I can say that I now can hear much more complicated harmonic situations, my time is much and improved and am certainly able to hear a 12 bar form. - This download made such a difference in my playing and in ear training skills. I had purchased Chord Workbook for Guitar Volume One and felt like I was getting the progressions. But after working with these MP3s I realized that not only was I playing too fast when I played the chords but I would get lost when I was soloing over the progressions and either stop too soon or way too late. (Ouch!) If you are working with the Chord Workbook for Guitar Volume One get these MP3s, they put it all together. K. Schrader.
- I've worked through 1st Steps for a Beginning Guitarist and then moved on to Chord Workbook for Guitar Volume One. I love the chord progressions in the Chord Workbook they are very jazzy and sound just beautiful on the guitar. I contacted Mr. Arnold about what book to get next after Chord Workbook for Guitar Volume One, and he said I should get these MP3s to see if I could play the chord progressions well enough to play in a band. It was a good call. These MP3s are really like playing a duet with another guitarist. You are TOTALLY exposed and you hear your mistakes in a second. It took me a couple of extra weeks to get through most of the progressions. The G Major Blues is going to have to wait, that one is out of this world! - I had contacted Bruce about what he would recommend for a 50 something guy getting back into the guitar. I told him I was pretty good with most chords but he said that I should start with Chord Workbook for Guitar Volume One" and the Complete Blues Comping both Major and Minor MP3s. Well he was right. These MP3s will really point out any weakness you have in playing chords or soloing over chords. Bruce recommended I just work with the Blues Scale and the Major and Minor Pentatonic scales. Which actually work pretty good. It took me about 4 weeks but I have about 6 of these progressions together now. I've started playing with a very good friend of mine who is a much better player. According to him, and I agree, I'm much more aware of where I am and I'm not speeding up or slowing down and not soloing when I'm not supposed to be, like I used to.
